Position: Back-end reliever/closer
Age: 23
Prospect Level: Top prospect (5th according to BaseballAmerica.com)
2012 Major League Stats: 18 G, 0-1, 3.68 ERA, 14.2 IP, 14 K, 2 SV
2012 Minor League Stats: 41 G, 3-1, 4.26 ERA, 44.1 IP, 59 K, 15 SV

Season in Review: For Aumont, his hype level was pretty high ever since he was the main trade chip at the end of 2009 for Cliff Lee. He finally started to live up to the hype this past season with both the Iron Pigs in Triple-A and the Phillies for the final month of the season.

Aumont started out horrible for the Pigs, posting a 6.48 ERA in April, a rough start that really made people question Aumont’s value in the Lee deal. But Aumont bounced back, posting a 2.45 ERA in May, a 3.97 in June and a 2.38 in July before being called up in August.

The Phillies view Aumont as a future closer in the organization, and allowed him to pitch in the back-end of the rotation while he was up with the Phillies. He impressed in most of his outings, striking out 14 batters in 14 2/3 innings of work.

CINCINNATI — It was an afternoon of firsts for a pair of young Phillies right-handers.

Tyler Cloyd never would have guessed his first Major League win would come on the road against the best team in the National League while being opposed by a Cy Young candidate.

But Cloyd did it anyway, besting the Reds offense and Johnny Cueto on a cloudy Monday afternoon in Cincinnati. Then Phillippe Aumont came in to pitch the 9th, earning Cloyd his first Major League win to go along with Aumont’s first Major League save in the Phillies 4-2 win over the Reds.

Cloyd settled down nicely after allowing a 2nd-inning solo home run to Ryan Ludwick. He pitched seven innings, striking out nine while allowing only a run on four hits.

Phils option Schwimer, Aumont

Guessing the Phillies bull pen is always a fun game to play in the final two weeks of Spring Training. For those who had Michael Schwimer or Phillippe Aumont in their pools, you guessed wrong.

The Phillies optioned the the two relievers to minor league camp while also reassigning Jeremy Horst and David Purcey.

Aumont is considered to be one of the Phillies top pitching prospects. He four runs, two earned, in four innings of spring pitching.

But it was a bad outing this past Saturday in which he allowed three stolen bases, a wild pitch and a walk that pitching coach Rich Dubee poured ice cold water on the right-hander.
