WASHINGTON — The Phillies 2012 season ended in fitting fashion: in Washington to the NL East champs with a loss.

Cliff Lee went six innings, allowing three runs on eight hits and seven strikeouts. Lee finished the season 6-9 with a 3.16 ERA, 207 strikeouts and 28 walks in 211 innings.

Lee had a surprisingly history season, becoming the first ever pitcher to win less than eight games with a sub-3.20 ERA and over 200 strike outs.

Darin Ruf once again drove in the Phillies’ only run of the game. His sacrifice fly in the 4th inning gave him his eighth RBI in the last four games against Washington, providing 100% of the offense in each of those games.

The Phillies only lead disappeared in the bottom of the 4th. Lee gave up a lead-off homer to Ryan Zimmerman and back-to-back double to lead off the inning, giving Washington a 2-1 lead.

The Nats scored one more off Lee in the 6th with Tyler Moore’s solo shot.

2B: Schierholtz 2 (8), Ruiz (32), Frandsen (10).

Phillies Kendrick Looks Sharp In Win

Phillies 4, Nationals 2
WP – Kyle Kendrick (7-9, 4.12)
LP – Edwin Jackson (7-9, 3.72)
SV – Jonathan Papelbon (28)

PHILADELPHIA — Another fantastic outing from Kyle Kendrick fueled this win.

The number six starter pitched into the 7th, allowing only two runs in the Phillies 4-2 win over the first place Nationals on Friday night.

The scoreless streak may have ended but it didn’t erase the great outing Kendrick had once again. The two-run homer allowed to Tyler Moore snapped Kendrick’s 21-inning scoreless streak, but it was all Kendrick allowed.

Kendrick went 6 2/3 innings, allowing two runs on four hits and two walks while striking out three. He improved to 7-9 in his third straight win.

The Phillies scored in the first on a Chase Utley RBI single. Jimmy Rollins made it 3-0 in the 4th with his two-run single and Ryan Howard had an RBI single in the 8th that made it a 4-2 game.

2B: Kendrick (1), Howard (7).
