The Phillies have acquired RHP Ryan O’Sullivan from Dodgers as the player to be named later in the Joe Blanton trade from last week.

O’Sullivan, 21, was a 4th round pick in 2011 and is in the Single-A. He will likely head to Clearwater.

In 29 games with the Great Lakes Loons and Rancho Cucamonga Quakes of Single-A, O’Sullivan has an 8-6 record and 3.05 ERA. He made nine starts in his 29 games, making the switch to the bullpen where the Phillies will possibly keep him.

Joe Blanton Claimed Off Waivers; Traded to Dodgers

Joe Blanton has been claimed off waivers and traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers for a player to be named later and cash.

Taking Blanton’s roster spot is reliever B.J. Rosenberg. Kyle Kendrick will move to the rotation and take Blanton’s spot.

Blanton was scheduled to pitch tonight against the Diamondbacks. Kendrick will make the start instead.

Phillies SP Joe Blanton Available; Orioles Want Him

The Phillies haven’t made it clear if they are buyers or sellers at the deadline just yet, but one thing made clear is the availability of starting pitcher Joe Blanton.

The Phillies said that Blanton is available in a potential trade, and that the team with the most interest in him right now is Baltimore.

Phillies 4, Giants 4 (12 innings)
WP – Kyle Kendrick (4-8, 4.57)
LP – Brad Penny (0-1, 3.88)

PHILADELPHIA — The Phillies had a little bit of extra-innings magic in them this afternoon.

Jimmy Rollins’ RBI single in the bottom of the 12th drove home the winning run as the Phillies prevented the sweep with the win, taking down the Giants, 4-3, in 12 innings.

Carlos Ruiz worked a one-out walk and Laynce Nix singled to move Ruiz to third and set up the winning run by Rollins.

The Giants struck first only three pitches into the game. Nate Schierholtz hit a solo homer off Joe Blanton to lead off the game, giving San Francisco an early 1-0 lead.

Phillies Get A Huge Start Out of Blanton to Beat Dodgers

Phillies 3, Dodgers 2

LOS ANGELES — If the Phillies want to make a comeback on a season that appears to be lost, it’ll have to continue through Hollywood.

Joe Blanton got the Phils off to a great start, shutting down the Dodgers for eight innings in their 3-2 win Monday night. It was the third straight win for the Phillies.

Blanton was throwing his best stuff at the Dodgers, pitching eight brilliant innings. He allowed two run on six hits while striking out six for his eighth win of the season.

Blanton Struggles in Phils Loss

Braves 6, Phillies 3
WP – Tommy Hanson (10-5, 3.71)
LP – Joe Blanton (7-8, 4.98)
SV – Craig Kimbrel (24)

PHILADELPHIA — It seems as though a lead is never safe with this year’s Phillies team.

After trailing 1-0 early in the game, the Phillies took a 3-1 lead in the second inning only to see it slip away. The Braves scored all six runs off Joe Blanton as they defeated the Phillies 6-3 on Saturday evening.

The Phillies had RBIs from Juan Pierre, Joe Blanton, and Jimmy Rollins to take their lead.

But the Braves battled back over the next two innings.

Brian McCann continued his torture of Phillies pitching as he singled in a run to tie the game at 3. McCann has six RBIs through two games this series.

Marlins 5, Phillies 2
WP – Ricky Nolasco (7-6, 4.62)
LP – Joe Blanton (7-7, 4.85)
SV – Heath Bell (17)

MIAMI — The Marlins pulled out the brooms and successfully swept the Phillies in their home park.

Philadelphia, making its first trip to Miami’s new stadium, fell again, 5-2, and were swept but the 4th place Marlins. The Phillies started the series only half a game behind Miami to get out of the cellar but they instead distanced themselves further in the bottom of the NL East.

Joe Blanton rebounded from a rocky first three innings to pitch a solid effort. He went six, allowing three runs on six hits and two walks while striking out seven.

Blanton gave up back-to-back doubles and an RBI single in the 2nd inning to cough up a 1-0 lead created in the first by Juan Pierre’s triple and Hunter Pence’s RBI on a fielder’s choice.
