Phillies Sign Frandsen to One-Year Deal

In a move to avoid arbitration, the Phillies have signed third baseman Kevin Frandsen to a one-year deal, according to CBS’ Jon Heyman. (UPDATE: Deal is worth $850,000, according to Todd Zolecki.)

Frandsen was a late season call up, and surprised the Phillies with his offensive production and steady glove at third. He hit .338 with a .383 OBP and 14 RBIs, but only 12 of his 66 hits were for extra bases.

Frandsen’s signing means the Phillies would be interested in having him as either a back up to another free agent third baseman like Kevin Youkilis or to platoon with someone like Eric Chavez, both one-year stop-gap options at the hot corner.
